Reliable Protection & Fault Isolation for High-Voltage Systems

Ensuring the continuous operation of your power grid, our AD-1 Series Disconnector is designed to automatically isolate a failed surge arrester from the system. This prevents permanent line faults and provides a clear visual indication for maintenance teams to replace the damaged unit.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Rapid Fault Isolation: Extremely fast response time under power frequency faults to protect the grid stability.

  • High Impulse Withstand: Engineered to withstand high-energy square wave and lightning impulses without nuisance tripping.

  • Visual Fault Indication: Once triggered, the disconnector provides a visible physical gap or drop-out, making inspection effortless.

  • Maintenance Free: Robust design resistant to environmental aging, ensuring long-term reliability in outdoor conditions.

Technical Specifications

Based on the provided test data, the AD-1 series meets the following performance standards:

Understanding the Parameters (Buyer’s Guide)

To ensure you select the correct disconnector for your application, please consider the following:

  1. Operation Characteristics:

The inverse time-current characteristic shown (0.5s at 20A vs 0.02s at 800A) ensures that the system is cleared faster as the fault severity increases.

  2. Impulse Non-Operation (Withstand):

A critical factor for reliability. Our disconnector can handle a 100kA (4/10 $\mu s$) lightning impulse without operating. This prevents “nuisance tripping” during normal lightning activity where the arrester is still functional.

  3. Application Environment:

Suitable for use with Metal Oxide Surge Arresters (MOA) in distribution and transmission lines (typically 10kV to 220kV systems).

Installation & Maintenance

  • Connection: Usually connected in series at the bottom (earth side) of the surge arrester.

  • Flexible Lead: Ensure the flexible grounding lead is long enough to allow for the disconnector to “drop” or move significantly upon operation to create an air gap.

  • Replacement: Once the disconnector has operated (tripped), both the disconnector and the associated surge arrester must be inspected and typically replaced.
